Field Induced Transition from Metal to Insulator in the CMR Manganites
نویسنده
چکیده
The gigantic reduction of the electric resistivity under the applied magnetic field, CMR effect, is now widely accepted to appear in the vicinity of the insulator to metal transition of the perovskite manganites. Recently, we have discovered the first order transition from ferromagnetic metal to insulator in La0.88Sr0.12MnO3 of the CMR manganite. This phase transition induces the tremendous increase of the resistivity under the external magnetic field just near above the phase transition temperature. We report here fairly detailed results from the systematic experiments including neutron and synchrotron X-ray scattering studies. keywords: Metal Insulator Transition, CMR Manganites, Orbital Order, Charge Order, Superexchange, Anisotropic Tensor Susceptibility, Neutron scattering, Synchrotron x-ray scattering

Manganites are considered as subbranches of condensed matter physics with a great wealth of physical mechanisms. In this investigation we have studied the structural, electrical and magnetic properties of a series of La1-xCaxMnO3 manganite with x=0.1, 0.2, …,0.5. We observed that the crystal structure of this manganite, with small dopping, at room temperature is orthorhombic and by increasi...

The eg-orbital double-exchange mechanism as the core of physics of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) manganites is well known, which usually covers up the role of super-exchange at the t2g-orbitals. The role of the double-exchange mechanism is maximized in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, leading to the concurrent metal-insulator transition and ferromagnetic transition as well as CMR effect. In this work, by a s...
متن کاملGriffiths phase, metal-insulator transition, and magnetoresistance of doped manganites
A phenomenological model is developed for systematic study of the universal features in metal-insulator transition and magnetoresistivity of mixed-phase manganites. The approach is based on utilization of some hypothesis appropriate to the Preisach picture of the magnetization process for half-metallic ferromagnets and an assumption that in doped manganites a Griffiths-type phase exists just ab...
متن کاملCorrelations between pressure and bandwidth effects in metal–insulator transitions in manganites
The effect of pressure on the metal–insulator transition in manganites with a broad range of bandwidths is investigated. A critical pressure is found at which the metal–insulator transition temperature, TMI , reaches a maximum value in every sample studied. The origin of this universal pressure and the relation between the pressure effect and the bandwidth on the metal–insulator transition are ...
متن کاملMulti-scale Phase Modulations in Colossal Magnetoresistance Manganites
Extensive experimental results are presented on the multi-scale phase modulation phenomena observed in colossal magnetoresistance manganites. Two key types of phase inhomogeneities directly relevant to the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) are discussed. The first type involves micrometer-scale coexistence of structurally and electronically different phases. We present extensive experimental dat...
